http://www.CockatielsHealth.com brings you part 1 of the clinical examination of Misty, a cockatiel with an abdominal lump. The cockatiel is found to have an abdominal hernia, probably secondary to chronic oviduct disease and randy bird syndrome. Dr Ross Perry discovers that in addition to the abdominal hernia she also has a cere abscess, chronic air saculitis and respiratory disease, probable psittacosis/ chlamydia infection, severe chronic bumblefoot, diarrhoea and signs of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease PBFD. In the next video Dr Perry discusses surgical repair of the abdominal hernia as well as what he advises for the other issues.

In #3 you can watch Dr Perry performing a "nose job" in which he gently and carefully curettes out the dry pus from the cockatiel's left nostril

This video by Dr Ross Perry shows how to clip the nails and give drops by mouth to a sick cockatiel with suspected PBFD as well as chronic severe liver disease suspected to be associated with chronic chlamydophilosis, accumulated toxins and inappropriate diet.
Note how Dr Perry calms and restrains the cockatiel for these procedures to minimise struggling and distress. Dr Perry mentions some of the many causes of liver disease and aspects of his advice in terms of medications and health and well being support. In addition he also gave lots of advice on improving cage, diet, food and water containers, perches, toys, pathology tests and options for quantum evaluations and adjustments that is not included in this video.

I intend CockatielHealth.com to be the best site about Cockatiels Health and Diseases.
As an introduction, I, Dr Ross Perry graduated as a vet BVSc(Hons) from University of Sydney in 1972 and was registered as Australia’s first Bird Specialist by examination in Caged and Aviary Bird Health in 1993 with FACVSc(Avian Health). I have written many articles and book chapters, as well as “Vade Mecum 2 Diseases of Birds” and “Caring for Birds with Love and Gratitude”. I served as Dial-A-Vet for 3.5 years on Sydney radio 2GB, and was featured many times on Animal Hospital, a television production by Channel 10.
Some of my childhood pets were cockatiels and I bred Cockatiels and other birds for a time, so became interested in Cockatiels Health and Diseases at an early age. Cockatiels Health and Diseases issues are some of the most common that I treat and give advice about.
