Cockatiel randy bird syndrome is very common in cockatiels that don't have a compatible partner of the opposite sex and same species, especially during the breeding season. There are many different manifestations of cockatiel randy bird syndrome. Cockatiel Randy Bird Syndrome in male cockatiels often results in significantly different patterns of behavior than seen in female cockatiels. In the accompanying video on Cockatiel Randy Bird Syndrome we see a delightful cockatiel get excited about a foot massager and then having a wonderful time "going to town" on it. The video of Cody is courtesy of Cheryl Willobird with my thanks, and yours too, after you've enjoyed watching it!

Click on the following link:Cockatiel Randy Bird Syndrome

Although this video about Cockatiel Randy Bird Syndrome is both funny and amusing, at another level this sort of behaviour is not likely to be seen in nature. Cockatiel Randy Bird Syndrome has lots to do with how cockatiels adapt to situations in which their natural needs from a young age of having a choice of partners of the opposite sex before reaching sexual maturity have not been met. In my book "Caring for Birds with Love and Gratitude" I advise pairing birds after they have been initially hand tamed, with compatible partners of same species and opposite sex, before either has reach ed sexual maturity, if and when possible.

Be sure to enjoy their other dances which on one hand are very amusing and on the other belie compensation behaviour for unmet needs. So let's laugh some more while pondering the concept that many of the emotions and needs of birds might parallel our own.

Avian Vet Specialist Dr Ross Perry notes that this video is highly amusing and close to x-rated but not quite. It shows another aspect of Randy Bird Syndrome behaviour. Cricket and Shadow are friends but are both males and neither have compatible partners of the opposite sex and same species yet. During peak breeding season they're feeling more than their oats and find a rolling dowel perch is not so easy!
http://www.CockatielsHealth.com with Bird Vet Specialist Dr Ross Perry brings you a video clip of a very annoyed upset Cockatiel with a jammed toe filmed immediately after she had a protective dressing applied to her left foot. About 1 hour earlier she had her left front toe jammed badly in a cupboard door that was accidentally closed while she was perching on its edge. Her left front lateral jammed toe was badly bruised and much of the skin on the upper surface of the toe was peeled away. She was given pain relief as soon as possible just before the dressing was applied. The dressing includes a series of decoys for her to bite so that she is not biting herself, especially her jammed toe. However, some birds still need to have an Elizabethan Collar applied as well to prevent self-mutilation until they adjust to and accept a dressing, splint or cast.

http://www.CockatielsHealth.com with holistic vet and bird specialist Dr Ross Perry brings you video clips of the follow-up consultation about Louie Cockatiel's jammed toe. We see that the nail remained alive and the skin and the toe has made a marvellous recovery. The video is cut short because we ran out of battery! When Louie's bandage was completely removed and he was returned to his cage he held his foot up for a while and then resumed using it normally.

http://www.CockatielsHealth.com brings you part 1 of the clinical examination of Misty, a cockatiel with an abdominal lump. The cockatiel is found to have an abdominal hernia, probably secondary to chronic oviduct disease and randy bird syndrome. Dr Ross Perry discovers that in addition to the abdominal hernia she also has a cere abscess, chronic air saculitis and respiratory disease, probable psittacosis/ chlamydia infection, severe chronic bumblefoot, diarrhoea and signs of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease PBFD. In the next video Dr Perry discusses surgical repair of the abdominal hernia as well as what he advises for the other issues.

In #2 Dr Ross Perry discusses what can be done to help Misty.

In #3 you can watch Dr Perry performing a "nose job" in which he gently and carefully curettes out the dry pus from the cockatiel's left nostril

http://www.CockatielsHealth.com with Australia's leading bird vet specialist Dr Ross Perry brings you a very interesting video clip Hot To Trot Randy Bird Dance featuring Shadow egged on by Cricket who is along for the ride, courtesy of Greg McCarthy. This video of two hot to trot randy birds dancing is highly amusing and close to x-rated but not quite. Shadow, the pivotal dancer and Cricket are both male cockatiels without female partners and both are feeling their oats (being randy birds) in peak breeding season. Shadow is very keen to find some way of relieving his needs using the doweling perch but he finds a rolling dowel perch is not so easy! . This behaviour demonstrates another aspect of Randy Bird Syndrome.

Learn lots more about Randy Bird Syndrome in Dr Ross Perry's book "Caring for Birds with Love" available from http://www.DrRossPerry.com.au

I recommend whenever possible compatible birds be kept in pairs of same species and opposite sex and be given the opportunity to breed 1-2 x every 1-2 years by provision of appropriate nesting boxes, logs or nesting material and dietary changes to support breeding. This is my preferred way of addressing Randy Bird Syndrome.

http://www.CockatielsHealth.com with Bird Vet Specialist Dr Ross Perry shows you a Cockatiel Health Care video of a rescued pet cockatiel with signs of chronic Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease. Dr Ross Perry named this Circovirus-associated disease Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease Syndrome soon abbreviated to PBFD.He has recently discovered that the quantum frequency settings for the Cockatiel Circovirus, Budgerigar Circovirus, Cockatoo Circovirus, Lovebird Circovirus, Canary Circovirus, Lorikeet Circovirus and Pigeon Circovirus are all different and also expects the Raven Circovirus Quantum Frequency Settings to also be different. In due course you will be able to learn a lot more about Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease from Dr Ross Perry at http://www.PsittacineBeakFeatherDisease.com. Dr Ross Perry predicts that Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease affected birds will be able to be helped to recover health and wellness by applied quantum technology in the near future.
